Prerequisites:
Step 1:
Download and install the latest version of MakeMKV. (https://www.makemkv.com/download/)
Step 2:
Download and install the latest version of Handbrake and the required Microsoft .net framework version. (https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php)
Step 3:
Insert the DVD into the drive.
If a member of staff brings in a Blu-Ray disk, this will more than likely not work for a number of reasons.
Our disk drives are not Blu-Ray compatible, and even if they were they have much better copy protection which requires some custom disk drive firmware in order to break and rip.
Using MakeMKV to rip DVDs:
Step 1:
Open MakeMKV and wait for it to check the DVD media. After it has initialised, click the DVD drive icon to start scanning the disk for titles.

When it has finished scanning, you will see the titles in a list like the below:

Step 2:
Deselect all of the titles that are not required, and leave the required one selected. Expand the title with the dropdown arrow.
Deselect all of the audio/subtitle tracks that are not required. You should be left with something similar to the below:

Step 3:
Define the directory in which you would like the ripped DVD file to be saved in the ‘Output Folder’ box.

Step 4:
Now the required title, audio, and subtitle tracks have been selected, click the 'Make MKV' button to start ripping the DVD.

When it has finished successfully, it will pop up with the below message:

Step 5:
How the MKV has saved, open up handbrake to compress and convert the file into a h264 mp4 file.
From the source selection options, choose file, and locate the file you have just ripped, and open it.

Step 6:
Leave the encoding preset on 'Fast 1080p30', leave all other settings default.
If subtitles are required, choose the required subtitles from the dropdown, and untick the ‘forced only’ box. Leave ‘Burn In’ ticked, and it will encode with the subtitles.

They are not togglable and will appear at the bottom of the screen for the duration of the film.
Define the directory in which you would like the compressed mp4 file to be saved in the ‘Save As’ box.

Now the settings have been configured, press the 'Start Encode' button and wait until it has finished.

When it has finished encoding, review the footage to ensure that it has compressed successfully and there are no issues with the footage before uploading to Planet eStream.
