This guide will show you how to create an editable document for your students in Teams so you can track progress and collaborate in real time.
Step 1: Create the Assignment (if already created, continue to step 2)
In Microsoft Teams, click on the “Teams” tab from the left-hand menu.
Select your class Team (e.g. Year 10 English).
Go to the “Assignments” tab.
Click “Create” → “Assignment.”
Enter a title for your assignment (e.g. Essay Draft 1).
Step 2: Add a Collaborative Document
Click “+ New” under the “Resources” section.
Choose your preferred document type — for example, Word Document.
Enter a name for the file (e.g. Essay_Draft_Template).
Click “Done.”
Step 3: Allow Students to Edit Their Own Copy
Just below the document name, open the drop-down menu.
Change the setting from “Students can’t edit” to “Students edit their own copy.”
Click “Assign.”
Step 4: Monitor and Collaborate in Real Time
Once the assignment is set, you’ll see a list of students under that assignment.
Click on a student’s name to open their individual document.
If both you and the student have the document open, you can see edits in real time and collaborate directly.
✅ Tip: This will allow for live feedback and track progress!
