EndPoint Device - Self Service Password Reset Functionality
Summary
Guide Created With: Web Browser / Windows 10 / OS X 14+
Guide Created On: 18/04/2023 Version 1.0
Potential Issues: This only works if you have registered a second method of authentication. Details below on how to register if you haven't signed up for MFA already.
Attention: Your device will have to be on our new management platform, Intune, by the IT Support Dept. before you're able to follow part 2.1 of this guide.
Typically when you have forgotten your password, you need to get hold of IT Services to ask them to reset this for you. With SSPR (Self-Service Password Reset), you're able to utilize your pre-configured second method of authentication to confirm your identity and reset your own password to gain access back into your Microsoft 365 account and services that authenticate against this.
Before you're able to use SSPR to reset your own password, while you have access to your account, you need to set up a second method of authentication. If you have previously signed up for MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) then step 1 is not required as you have already set up your second method of authentication.
Step 1 - Setup Second Method of Authentication
(Skip if you have MFA setup already)
If you haven't set up your second method of authentication yet, please refer to the following guides to get this setup:

Step 2.1 - Access the SSPR Portal from the login screen on a school Windows device
Please note, this is a new feature we're rolling out and won't be available for all users from day one

1) From the login screen, select Reset Password from under the username and password box. You will need to type in your username to see this.

2) This will bring up a new window above the login screen, which is going to walk you through resetting your account password. First, Type in your email address if this isn't already filled in.

3) Select I forgot my password

4) From here, you'll need to select your method of authentication from the top drop down. Then, in the below example (we're using the authentication app) go onto the app on your smartphone, and type in the 6 digit one-time-code that shows. Click Next

5) Type in your new password in both boxes, then click Next

6) Your password has now been reset. Please click Finish

Please note, that after changing your password, you may have to wait a couple of minutes before it lets you sign in with your changed password.
Step 2.2 - Access the SSPR Portal from a browser
<span class="fr-mk" style="display: none;">&nbsp;</span><span class="fr-mk" style="display: none;">&nbsp;</span><span class="fr-mk" style="display: none;">&nbsp;</span><span class="fr-mk" style="display: none;">&nbsp;</span>&amp;lt;span class="fr-mk" style="display: none;"&amp;gt;&amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;lt;/span&amp;gt;
1) There are a couple of ways to access the Password reset portal from any browser, being either:
- Go to the website: https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/
- From the sign-in page for Microsoft 365 (accessible via https://portal.sast.org.uk) Select Can't access your account under the username field, then select Work or school account

2) You'll be brought to a webpage, asking you to first enter your full email address, as well as a CAPITCHA code to make sure you're human. Type these in, then click Next

3) Select I forgot my password and then click Next

4) You'll be presented with a list of verification options so that we can make sure that it's you that's resetting your password. In this example, we'll be using the Microsoft Authenticator App, on smartphones.

Open your App and find the account you're attempting to sign in with, write in the One-Time password code that it presents on the website and click Next

5) From here, you'll be able to type in your new password.

Please note, your new password will require varying levels of complexity depending on what Password Policy you have been assigned. For more details, check out this article:
6) When you have typed in your new password and it's been accepted, you'll get this page.

Please allow a few minutes for this password change to sync through to our systems and then allow you to log in.
